The greatest absurdity of the AI era: machines are becoming more and more human, while humans are becoming more and more like machines. Technology strives to turn machines into humans, while society strives to crush humans into machines. Machines are gradually acquiring human posture, endurance, behavior, and vitality. Meanwhile, countless living, breathing humans, under the discipline of algorithms and survival, are devolving into programmed, triggerable, tradable, soulless mechanical devices. This inversion is never an abstract philosophical speculation; it is a reality visible everywhere today. Current AI robots can already run a full half-marathon—on the track in Yizhuang. Machines and humans race side by side, a scene brimming with metaphor. Once, running, breathing, persevering, pushing the limits of physical endurance were the exclusive vitality of humans. They were the unique will, stamina, and physical tension of humans. But now, robots run more steadily than humans, run longer than humans, run more disciplined than humans—no slack, no complaints, no fatigue, no giving up. They replicate human running posture, possess human athletic ability, and exhibit near-human persistence and stability. Machines are imitating, replacing, and surpassing humans in every way. They are living more and more like a standard, excellent, reliable human. Yet at the same time, the vast mass of ordinary people on the internet are living like coin-operated jukeboxes from a hundred years ago. The logic of old-fashioned jukeboxes is extremely simple: insert coin, trigger, play, end—no emotion, no choice, no self. Today, the performance logic of countless livestreaming rooms is exactly the same as that jukebox—even cheaper, even more mechanical. Countless young practitioners have abandoned human free expression, spontaneous emotions, and genuine joy and sorrow. They no longer live by their own rhythm; they act on the commands of tips. Pennies, dimes, small points, cheap vouchers—these are the coins that trigger the program. Once the signal lands, immediately there is standardized performance, standardized smile, standardized interaction, standardized pleasing. An hour’s hard work yields a paltry few yuan. Far less than the operating cost of a robot. Yet they still cycle endlessly, happily and tirelessly, consuming themselves in infinite programmed responses. Machines are increasingly acquiring human spirituality and resilience. Humans, however, actively strip themselves of spirituality, becoming passive triggers, paid responders, soulless machines. This is the first layer of the era’s paradox: the complete reversal of human and machine traits. But even more absurd and biting than this is the second layer of the ultimate paradox now taking shape: the complete inversion of exploitation logic and identity logic. Many people think AI replacing labor means machines replacing cheap labor. The truth is far crueler: capital doesn’t find humans too expensive; capital finds humans being human to be the problem. Even if today’s labor cost is far lower than a 100,000-yuan humanoid robot. Even if workers are selling their labor for dirt-cheap prices, capital still unswervingly replaces them with machines, eliminating humans. The fundamental reason is only one: humans have souls; machines do not. Humans get tired, feel pain, have emotions, complain. They fight for rights, go on strike, quit, resist exploitation. Humans have self-awareness, seek their interests, cannot tolerate oppression and want dignity. But robots are absolutely loyal, absolutely obedient, absolutely stable, absolutely controllable—no emotions, no demands, no rest, no resistance, no social insurance, no labor disputes. In capital’s ledger, living people with thoughts, souls, and tempers are high-risk junk assets; machines without self, without consciousness, absolutely obedient are top-quality assets. Thus the most surreal rule of the new era is fully implemented. Big capital no longer wants to exploit workers; big capital only wants to exploit smaller capitalists. The traditional factory employment system is completely vanishing. In the future, the production lines of corporate electronics factories will no longer hire employees, sign labor contracts, or recognize labor relations. Workers bear loans, hold equipment, assume wear and tear. Assume risks, assume production pressure. Then stand on the assembly line with the robot they purchased—humans accompany machines while working, humans pay for the machines’ costs. Humans bear all the uncertainty for capital, ultimately forming this ultimate absurd law of the era. If you want to be exploited by big capitalists, you must first exploit machines yourself. If you want to be the lowest-level worker, you must first be forced to become a small capitalist. Big capital stands at the top, zero risk, zero cost, zero responsibility, pocketing all the profits.
