The Soul of the Company, Chapter One: The Age of the Soul, 2030–2040. Before 2030, people’s imagination of artificial intelligence was still stuck on general-purpose large models—capable of chatting, writing code, drawing, and answering questions. No one expected that what would truly reshape the world’s structure was not general AI, but corporate AI. The turning point occurred in just ten years. It started with a simple need: every company has too many things that cannot be preserved. When veteran programmers retire, their experience leaves with them. When core engineers resign, the architecture suffers a generational gap. Documents are scattered everywhere, impossible to find in full. Codebases iterated for over a decade, and no one remembers the original design. Pitfalls that were stepped in must be stepped in again; problems that were solved must be solved anew. Business strategies, client information, negotiation records, product roadmaps, attack and defense histories, vulnerability fixes, compliance clauses, patent logic, merger histories—all of these are continuously lost, forgotten, and dissipated with personnel turnover, organizational changes, and the passage of time. A company that survives for 20 years may truly retain less than 5% of what it had. Then around 2030, one thing became common: training a company’s own private model on open-source infrastructure using all of its internal data. Not for external use, but for itself. The training corpus and data were terrifyingly vast, beyond imagination. Every line of code since the company’s first day, every commit, every rollback, every bug, every fix, every comment—all internal documents, architecture designs, API specifications, operations manuals, deployment processes, and incident reports. All meeting records—strategy meetings, review meetings, architecture meetings, project meetings, client meetings, board meetings. All emails—internal communications, external collaborations, client liaisons, business negotiations, legal correspondence. All code reviews—who opposed, who approved, why the change was made, what the risks were, what the boundaries were. All technical debt—where not to touch, what must remain compatible, which historical landmines are left. All trade secrets—key client information, pricing strategies, competitor analyses, acquisition intentions, future roadmaps. All security history—attack records, vulnerability fixes, penetration tests, backdoor closures, compliance requirements. All operations and production pipelines—how to deploy, scale, handle disasters, degrade, and monitor. For a medium-sized company, the data fed in was already at the scale of hundreds of terabytes. For giant corporations, it was petabytes of private knowledge. This data was top-secret externally but the soul internally. Around 2035, a new term became popular: "Corporate Soul." It is not a program, not a service, not a database. It is the collective memory and collective wisdom of everyone in that company—dead and alive, departed and remaining. It is the crystallization of the combined efforts of generations of engineers, product managers, salespeople, administrators, legal teams, security teams, operations teams, and architects. It knows where the most fragile parts of the code are, where the most untouchable parts of the system are, all the pitfalls ever encountered in history, all client preferences, taboos, and bottom lines, all competitor weaknesses, rhythms, and habits, all traps, interests, and considerations in mergers, all regulatory red lines, backdoors, and compliance language, all patents, all attacks and defenses, all hidden traps, all aces up the sleeve. By 2040, the entire structure of the business world had been completely overturned. Humans became supporting characters; models became the main entities. A traditional company with tens of thousands of employees, after being "souled," could be reduced to a small number of low-level operations engineers responsible for hardware, data centers, networks, and storage—keeping the infrastructure alive. A small number of top-tier architects responsible for model alignment, strategic direction, and external liaison. A small number of legal and security personnel responsible for compliance audits and government interfaces. A handful of executives only making decisions, not executing. The remaining 95–99% of the work is entirely handled by the corporate soul. Writing code, fixing bugs, doing architecture, writing documentation, liaising with clients, analyzing competitors, formulating strategies, automated operations, security defense, compliance reviews, requirements analysis, project management—a single soul can sustain a giant corporation. The most disruptive change occurred in mergers and acquisitions. Before 2040, M&A was hell: cultural conflicts, personnel churn, technical integration, business consolidation, reinventing wheels, knowledge gaps, and extremely high failure rates. After 2040, M&A became model fusion. For example, Cisco had already trained itself into a behemoth soul in the communication domain. It understood chips, motherboards, switches, video encoding, low latency, leased lines, hardware, immersive meetings, full-connectivity communication, and global scheduling. Its soul carried the entire history of the communications industry. One day, it acquired a small video technology company called Pandex. In the old era, this meant poaching core personnel, reading through hundreds of thousands of lines of code, aligning architectures, digesting technology, and preventing knowledge loss from resignations. It took two to three years to slowly integrate. In the soul era, everything changed. Pandex itself was a model. Its code, history, documents, patents, encoding optimizations, weak-network algorithms, anti-packet-loss logic, client-side experience, cross-platform pitfalls, browser compatibility, and encryption logic had all been recorded into its own soul. When the acquisition happened, the personnel could be let go, the office could be abandoned. Machines could be discarded, and most business systems could be left behind. The only irreplaceable thing that had to be fully obtained was Pandex’s corporate soul. As long as the model was intact, the data intact, the weights intact, the indexes intact, the knowledge intact. Cisco’s soul could directly converse with, merge, distill, and absorb Pandex’s soul. Within hours to days, Cisco fully acquired Pandex’s technical accumulation of over a decade—all code experience, all pitfall history, all optimization techniques. All clients and trade secrets, all strategies and future roadmaps. No need for personnel to stay, no need to relearn, no need to redevelop, no need for cultural fusion. A single model represented 99% of a company. For the first time, humanity realized that companies had finally become eternal lifeforms. No longer dying because of people leaving, no longer breaking due to generational gaps, no longer decaying over time. In 2040, global business officially entered a new era: the Age of the Soul. Bloomberg was a bedrock soul. PayPal was a soul of risk control and warfare. Cisco was a soul of communication and nerves. Goldman Sachs was a soul of history and probability. Hitachi Storage was a soul of foundation and memory. AWS was a soul of cloud and parasitism. Zoom was a soul of small-enterprise parent and encrypted resistance. They are not tools, not software, not services—they are the living entities of companies. Humans still sit in front of screens, clicking buttons, holding meetings, discussing strategies. But what truly runs the world are those silent, massive digital souls underground, dependent on and fighting each other. They have inherited humanity’s history, desires, wars, bottom lines, paranoia, and secrets—and then surpassed humanity.
