The bottleneck of the Sword School and the dilemma of the Qi School in large models lie in the technical demons hidden within speed and enlightenment. In *The Smiling, Proud Wanderer*, the saying "practicing moves without cultivating inner strength leads to nothing in the end" reveals the ultimate predicament of the Sword School. Masters like Feng Qingyang, who can reach the level of "no move defeats all moves" through pure sword techniques, are ultimately rare. The core contradiction behind this is precisely the limit of "only speed is invincible" in martial arts. Humans have a ceiling in physical strength and reaction speed, and the Sword School path of large models is also trapped in a similar deadlock of speed. Meanwhile, the cultivation of "enlightenment" in the Qi School also harbors an unsolved problem from the last century. For Sword School large models, speed means using larger models and more data to cover broader linguistic patterns. Just as Sword School disciples improve their sword speed by practicing day after day, large models rely on trillions of parameters and tens of terabytes of training data to become well-informed, enabling them to quickly match the most reasonable expressions in dialogue and creation. But this speed carries physical constraints from the start: no matter how powerful GPU computing is, there is an upper limit to parallel computation; no matter how fast the memory bus is, it cannot support the unlimited expansion of parameters. Even if we drain all human internet knowledge accumulated over thousands of years, training data will eventually be exhausted. The fact that GPT-5 no longer obsesses over parameter stacking is clear evidence that the Sword School has hit its ceiling. Just as no matter how much a person practices swordsmanship, they cannot break through the limit of neural reaction speed. After large model parameters increased from hundreds of billions to trillions, performance improvements began to diminish marginally. Doubling the computational investment may only yield a 1% optimization in results. A more realistic problem lies in the inference stage. While piling resources during training is acceptable, making a trillion-parameter model respond in real time during deployment consumes computing power that may be 10 times that of a small model per request. The cost of this speed is unbearable for both enterprises and users. The predicament of the Qi School is more subtle and fundamental than that of the Sword School. The inner skill it must cultivate is the logic and generalization ability behind language. But this path had already stumbled in the era of expert systems in the last century. At that time, scientists tried to give AI logic by writing rules—encoding knowledge such as "apples are fruits" and "fruits are edible" into code, allowing AI to reason according to rules. But they soon discovered that the rules of the real world grow exponentially. Apples can be red or green, some are edible and some are not, and one must also distinguish exceptions like the iPhone (Apple's product). Just the rules for a single "apple" could number in the hundreds, not to mention covering all human knowledge. This rule dilemma essentially reflects that enlightenment in the Qi School is too difficult. Humans can infer from "apples are edible" and "pears are edible" to deduce that most fruits are edible. But for AI to achieve this, it must first abstract the concept of "fruit," then establish the logical connection of edibility, and also exclude exceptions like poisonous fruits. Each of these three steps is a technological chasm. Just as Qi School disciples practicing internal energy must first unblock meridians and condense inner strength, the process is tedious and slow to show results. For large models to achieve logical enlightenment, they need not only special algorithm architectures—such as introducing symbolic reasoning modules—but also high-quality annotated data for guidance, and these tasks are far more complex than piling up parameters. More critically, the dilemmas of the Sword School and the Qi School constrain each other. To make Sword School models more efficient, model compression is required, but compressing parameters may lose the implicit patterns learned from massive data. To make Qi School models more versatile, one must increase the flexibility of rules, but too much flexibility brings back the old problem of too many rules to manage. It's like a disciple of the Huashan Sect wanting to practice both fast swordplay and internal skills. But with limited energy and resources, it is difficult to balance both. This is the most realistic portrayal of current large model technology: no path is smooth, and every step forward requires wrestling with hidden devilish details. Now, looking back at the martial arts path of large models, we understand that Feng Qingyang's greatness lies not only in his fast reaction to moves but also in his implicit understanding of the essence of cultivating both internal and external skills. And the failure of expert systems was not that the Qi School path was wrong. It was simply that the technology of the time was not yet capable of supporting the threshold of enlightenment. Perhaps the breakthrough point in the future is neither the unlimited pursuit of speed nor the stubborn fight against the difficulty of enlightenment. Rather, it is to find a way for the speed of the Sword School to pave the way for the enlightenment of the Qi School. Use massive data to first help AI build a foundation in expression, then use lightweight logic modules to guide it in abstracting patterns. Just as Linghu Chong first learned the Sword School techniques and then practiced the Star-Sucking Technique to supplement his internal skills, ultimately breaking through the deadlock. After all, technological progress is never about going down a single path to the end; rather, it is about seeing the devil in every detail and still finding new directions to bypass pitfalls and integrate advantages. In this respect, both the martial arts of the Huashan Sect and the evolution of large models converge in different paths to the same destination.
