Break through the Ryukyu situation, using the sword of legal principles to strike at the root, reshaping the pattern of Sino-Japanese博弈. China's diplomatic goodwill has never been the meekness of being bullied, but a combination of firmness and flexibility: "Do not offend unless offended; if offended, retaliate." Faced with Japan's frequent provocations over the Diaoyu Islands and its relentless encroachment by using Ryukyu bases to interfere in the Taiwan Strait, simply engaging in scattered disputes over island sovereignty has already put China at a disadvantage. Only by striking at the root, revisiting the historical and legal truths of Ryukyu's status, and launching a fierce offensive exposing that "if the skin is gone, the hair has no place to attach," can Japan's hegemonic foundation be severed. This is a strategic breakthrough that cuts off the water at its source. Since Japan's claim to sovereignty over Ryukyu has no footing in international law, its rights to station troops and deploy weapons in Ryukyu are completely invalid, let alone its contention for sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands, which are part of the Ryukyu chain. This is the qualitative elevation of China's diplomacy in daring to struggle and excelling at struggle, a sharp blade to fundamentally strike the enemy. I. Ironclad Legal Evidence. Ryukyu is not Japanese territory, and its sovereignty remains unresolved. The dual ironclad evidence of history and international law has already nailed Japan's claim over Ryukyu to the pillar of shame. In 1879, Japan forcibly annexed the Ryukyu Kingdom by military force. This naked act of aggression has never received legitimate international recognition. After World War II, the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation clearly stipulated that Japan's sovereignty is limited to Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku, and such minor islands as we determine, directly stripping Japan of all rights over Ryukyu. To this day, the sovereignty of Ryukyu remains unsettled. Japan's de facto control over Ryukyu relies solely on the postwar U.S. trusteeship arrangement, essentially a continuation of illegal occupation. Japan's military presence and weapons deployment in Ryukyu are like water without a source or a tree without roots. Since its claim to sovereignty over Ryukyu lacks any legal basis, all so-called military actions to "defend Okinawa" or "manage the Taiwan Strait" are hegemonic acts violating international law. By revisiting the controversy over Ryukyu's status, China is not shooting aimlessly but wielding the sword of legal principles to tear apart Japan's hypocritical facade of legal military presence and control, exposing to the world its true ambition to use Ryukyu as a springboard to interfere in the Taiwan Strait and covet the Diaoyu Islands. II. Cutting Off the Water at Its Source. A Root-level Breakthrough in the Diaoyu Islands Dispute. For a long time, Japan has stirred up trouble over the Diaoyu Islands, often using the guise of "actual control" and "historical traditions" to confuse the public, while actually clinging to minor details of the confrontation. Little does Japan realize that the Diaoyu Islands, as affiliated islands of the Ryukyu chain, have their ownership issue fundamentally tied to Ryukyu's status. As the saying goes, "If the skin is gone, the hair has no place to attach." If Ryukyu's sovereignty has nothing to do with Japan, then all of Japan's claims over the Diaoyu Islands become castles in the air and utter nonsense. Previously, China's countermeasures on the Diaoyu Islands were mostly limited to patrols, law enforcement, and diplomatic protests. Although these effectively defended sovereignty, they never broke free from the limitation of "discussing the islands in isolation." Now, putting the Ryukyu issue on the table is precisely about reshaping the博弈 pattern from the root. Without sovereignty over Ryukyu, how can Japan contend with China for the Diaoyu Islands? This question strikes Japan's weak point, completely dismantling its legal basis on the Diaoyu issue. This method of struggle is far more lethal than scattered frictions around the islands. It is a strategic move to cut off Japan's ambitions in one fell swoop, turning all its provocations on the Diaoyu Islands into water without a source. III. Qualitative Elevation. Strategic Transformation from Passive Defense to Active Breakthrough. Looking back, China's past territorial disputes with Japan were mostly characterized by passive defense, exhausting itself in responding to Japan's provocations. However, in the new era, Chinese diplomacy has long abandoned the conservative mindset of "seeking no merit but avoiding blame" and adopted the core strategy of "offense is the best defense," achieving a qualitative leap from addressing isolated issues to striking at the root. The play of the "Ryukyu card" is a vivid manifestation of this transformation. It no longer restricts itself to the detail of the Diaoyu Islands but directly points to the foundation of Japan's military presence. If Ryukyu's status is clarified, Japan's military deployment in the southwestern islands will lose legitimacy, and its strategic fulcrum for interfering in the Taiwan Strait will completely collapse. This shift from tactical frictions to strategic breakthroughs leaves Japan exhausted by its own legal dilemmas, completely unable to stir up trouble on the Diaoyu Islands and other issues. This is by no means a provocative action that harms neighbors, but a powerful countermeasure against Japan's long-term disregard for international law and arbitrary interference in other countries' internal affairs. It is the wisdom of struggle that uses the enemy's own spear to attack its shield, and an inevitable choice to make hegemonism feel the pain deep in its bones. IV. Sharp Blade Revealed: A Stern Warning to Japan's Resurgent Militarism. At present, Japan's militarist tendencies are becoming increasingly evident. On the one hand, it falsifies history textbooks and denies war crimes; on the other, it significantly increases defense budgets, deploys advanced weapons in Ryukyu, and attempts to use the pretext of "Taiwan Strait contingencies" to interfere in China's internal affairs. Reviving the Ryukyu issue is a stern warning against this dangerous trend. If Japan continues to be stubborn, ignores historical legal principles, and tries to destabilize the region through military force, China will take more targeted countermeasures to fundamentally dismantle its strategic foundation. China's goodwill and restraint are never the capital for Japan to make excessive demands. China's advocacy for peace needs a powerful struggle strategy to defend it. The sharpness of the Ryukyu card lies not only in severing Japan's legal link to the Diaoyu Islands but also in making the world see the danger of Japan's resurgent militarism, and letting Japan understand that any attempt to challenge China's core interests will come at an unbearable cost. This sword of legal principles is not only a sharp weapon to defend national sovereignty but also a barrier to maintain regional peace and stability. Only by making the provocateur suffer so severely that it dares not repeat its actions can peace be truly achieved through struggle. The breakthrough in the Ryukyu issue is a brilliant elevation of China's diplomatic struggle strategy. Based on legal principles and strategic frameworks, it leaps beyond localized frictions and strikes directly at the enemy's vital points. This fully demonstrates that China's goodwill has always been accompanied by sharpness, and its pursuit of peace has never been separated from the confidence to dare to struggle and excel at struggle. In the future, China will continue to uphold this strategy, defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity with a more resolute attitude and more precise means, leaving any forces that try to interfere in China's internal affairs or challenge international law nowhere to hide and unable to move a step under the dual blows of legal principles and strategy.
