Back View. Shen Chen was a technical clerk at the company. Early one morning, the boss instructed him to deliver company documents to the meeting room and liaise with the new temporary assistant. Pushing open the door, he saw the boss chatting with a guest, with a woman standing beside them—tall and well-proportioned. The boss introduced her as Lisha, the new general manager’s assistant. As they exchanged the documents, Lisha extended her hand warmly, her tone natural and friendly. Shen Chen’s gaze lingered on her involuntarily, a fondness budding in his heart. Seizing the advantage of being close at hand, he took the initiative to speak. “How about grabbing lunch together after we’re done at noon?” Lisha gently shook her head, her demeanor carrying a hint of reserve. “I’m a bit tired this morning, and I have a lot of work this afternoon. Not today.” Shen Chen quickly responded, “That’s fine. How about tomorrow, then?” Lisha nodded slightly, agreeing. Through the rest of the day, Lisha stayed by the boss’s side, handling various tasks without pause. Shen Chen tried several times to approach her, but she was always fully occupied with work, and he never found the right moment. Near the end of the day, Lisha packed up and hurried out of the meeting room. Shen Chen quickly followed her downstairs, where he saw a black luxury car already parked by the roadside. The driver opened the door for her, and she bent down to get into the back seat. Through the window, he vaguely glimpsed a middle-aged man inside. The car drove off quickly, leaving Shen Chen standing there, his heart a mix of emotions, filled with unwarranted speculation. The next morning, Shen Chen arrived at work on time, but Lisha was nowhere to be seen. He went to HR to ask, but his colleagues all shook their heads. No one knew where she had gone, how to contact her, or even her background. The boss remained tight-lipped about her. Yesterday’s promise never came to pass. Life gradually returned to normal. Half a month or so passed, and one evening after work, Shen Chen was passing by the neighboring office building when a familiar figure in the crowd caught his eye—the same build, the same gait as Lisha. He quickened his pace and called out to her. The woman turned around. Her facial features were similar, but her outfit and demeanor were entirely different. Facing Shen Chen, her face was full of confusion. Shen Chen mentioned their brief time working together. She was stunned for a long moment before breaking into a knowing smile. “Oh, it’s you! My memory’s terrible; I almost didn’t recognize you.” Suppressing his emotions, Shen Chen invited her to lunch again the next day. She nodded in agreement once more. But when the appointed time came, he waited from noon until dusk, and she never showed up. He searched all over the building and waited at the entrance for an entire week. That figure never appeared again. A few days later, as evening fell, Shen Chen spotted that same back view on a street corner. This time, he did not approach. He quietly watched her walk toward the black car by the roadside and get inside. He immediately hailed a taxi and gestured for the driver to follow. The two cars wound through the streets. Through the taxi window, Shen Chen could only make out the shape of the car ahead. Eventually, the black car pulled into a heavily guarded tech building. Shen Chen stopped outside, looked up at the rooftop, and clearly saw the words “Unitree Technology.” He stood there for a long time without moving. Just before leaving, he couldn’t help but glance back at the closed door. In the long days that followed, what constantly resurfaced in his memory were only those fading back views.
